Protective clothing against heat and flame EN ISO 11612
The EN ISO 11612 standard covers clothing that protects against heat and flame. It is read with letters: A for flame spread, B for convective heat, C for radiant heat, D and E for molten metal splash, F for contact heat. A welder's garment and a foundry worker's garment do not carry the same letters.
These garments tolerate no approximation: the protection comes from the material itself, not from an added layer. Everything applied on top must be compatible, a logo included.

What to know before choosing
Read the letters, not the number
Two EN ISO 11612 garments can protect against very different things. It is the combination of letters, and the level that follows each one, that tells you whether the garment suits the job. Your prevention adviser knows which one you need: send us the answer, and we search the catalogue.
Nothing underneath that can melt
A polyester T-shirt under a flame-retardant jacket cancels part of the protection: the material melts on contact with the skin. The base layer must be cotton or a flame-retardant material too. It is the most frequent mistake, and it costs nothing to correct.
Multi-standard: often the right answer
In industry, the same garment often has to be flame-retardant, antistatic and sometimes protect against the electric arc. These garments exist and can be recognised by the list of standards on their label — it is cheaper than stacking three outfits.
Marking without downgrading the garment
This is the point on which we turn down orders. Protective clothing marked just anywhere is no longer protective clothing.
What EN ISO 11612 guarantees
The fabric does not spread flame and protects against heat by contact, radiation or molten metal splash. Welding, foundry, industry.
On a flame-retardant garment, standard marking is a weak point: an ordinary heat-seal film can melt or feed the flame. We therefore apply only compatible transfers, on the placements allowed by the manufacturer, and over a limited area. If the manufacturer declares no possible marking on the chosen garment, we tell you and look for another reference — rather than deliver an outfit that no longer protects.

Frequently asked questions
Can a flame-retardant garment be marked?
Yes, but only with compatible transfers and on the areas allowed by the manufacturer. On some garments no marking is permitted: we check before quoting, and we offer an alternative if necessary.
Can a flame-retardant garment also be high-visibility?
Yes, these are the multi-standard garments. They combine EN ISO 11612 and EN ISO 20471, sometimes EN 1149 for antistatic. Our catalogue has several dozen of them.
Does industrial laundering damage the protection?
It is provided for by the standard, within a limit of cycles stated by the manufacturer. Beyond that, the garment is replaced. On these outfits, the marking must be compatible with how the garment is treated: we check what the manufacturer allows before applying anything.
