Workwear for heating engineers

A heating engineer works in the customer's home, often a private one, and often on their knees in front of a boiler. The uniform is seen up close, in a living room or a cellar, by someone who has never seen the workshop. It is as much part of the quote as the equipment.

The rest is technical: knees that cope with tiled floors, pockets that hold the tools without letting them drop into the hopper, and a fabric that does not melt when a blowtorch passes twenty centimetres away.

What the trade demands of the garment

Near a flame, polyester is the wrong choice

Brazing, tin soldering, a heat gun: a spark on polyester does not burn, it melts and sticks to the skin. For the pieces that go near a flame, prefer cotton or a poly-cotton with a high cotton content. For regular brazing, what you need is an EN ISO 11612 jacket, not an ordinary work jacket.

The knee decides how long the trousers last

Heating engineers' trousers wear out at the knees, not at the crotch. A knee-pad pocket that takes a foam insert or a hard shell changes two things: everyday comfort, and the moment the trousers go in the bin. It is the one item where paying more costs less.

A uniform seen by the customer, not by the site

Unlike structural work, the heating engineer walks into a lived-in house. A clean polo with the company logo, changed every day, is worth more than a spotless jacket worn over an anonymous T-shirt. Many of our customers order five polos per person for this reason.

Trousers with knee-pad pocketsThe wear point of the trade. Tape-measure and tool pockets, knee pads, fabric reinforced where it rubs.
Work jacket or softshellFor the drive and cold cellars. The softshell blocks the wind without the weight of a parka, and takes marking very well.
BodywarmerWarm on the torso, arms free to work in a confined space. Often the most worn piece of the year.

Which marking for heating engineer workwear

DTF transfer on the chest and, if you wish, a large design on the back: this is what we apply on almost every heating engineer's uniform. It copes with a 60 °C wash, every colour is the same price and there is no set-up fee. The one reservation: on an EN ISO 11612 flame-retardant jacket, the marking has to be compatible with the garment — we then apply only what the manufacturer allows.
