Workwear for delivery drivers

In a company that delivers, the driver is often the only person the customer sees. Not the sales rep, not the boss: the one who rings the bell with the parcel. The uniform is the company's sign on the doorstep, and it tells whoever opens the door that the person standing there is the one they were expecting.

The job itself is a constant alternation: sitting in a warm cab, then outside in the rain, then sitting again, from morning to evening. No thick garment copes with that rhythm. What it takes is a layer you can keep on at the wheel without overheating and that is enough for the thirty metres to the door.

What the trade demands of the garment

Sitting, standing, inside, outside

A parka worn at the wheel makes you sweat, then chills you as soon as you get out. The bodywarmer and the softshell are the two pieces that cope with the alternation: the first keeps the torso warm while leaving the arms free to drive and carry, the second blocks the wind and takes a shower between the vehicle and the door. Look at the length too: a long jacket rides up and creases under the seat belt, a short cut stays in place.

Hi-vis depends on where you get out

Delivering to a private address in town does not call for hi-vis. Loading at a dock where forklifts are moving, unloading on the verge of a main road, entering a building site or a logistics site: there, the site rules or the risk assessment most often require an EN ISO 20471 garment, and its class. A vest kept in the door pocket is enough for an occasional stop; for a driver who spends the day on loading docks, a hi-vis polo or jacket with your logo saves putting the vest on and taking it off at every stop.

The seat belt and the parcels always wear the same places

The seat belt rubs the shoulder and crosses the chest; the sack truck and the parcels rub the stomach and the forearms. A fabric that pills in those places ages quickly: prefer a tight knit or a poly-cotton to a very soft cotton. It is also what decides where the logo goes — see below.

Standards that may apply

We certify nothing: we report what the manufacturer declares, and we apply the marking without compromising that declaration.

EN ISO 20471 — Fluorescent surface and retroreflective bands in measured quantities, to be seen by day and by night. Three classes depending on the area: class 2 is the usual minimum on a building site, class 3 is required by the roadside. Read more

Which marking for delivery driver workwear

DTF transfer: logo on the chest, large design on the back — the back is what the street sees while the driver unloads. For someone who drives all day, think of the seat belt: it runs over the shoulder and chest on the door side, and rubs whatever is there. The logo can go on the other side, or low enough to stay clear of the strap. On a hi-vis piece, we mark the neutral areas only, without touching the fluorescent fabric or the retroreflective bands: otherwise the piece drops out of its class.
